Skål UK Newsletter – January 2014

Hello Skålleagues

Greetings from a very sunny but windy Spain. I am now back in the real world after my amazing Christmas/New Year cruise aboard Black Watch from Southampton. Gales and high winds delayed our departure by 24 hours and we ran the gauntlet on storms through the Channel, Bay of Biscay and Atlantic which meant we missed Madeira and were late arriving in Barbados. However still had the best holiday for a very long time. Black Watch is as good as ever and meeting up with lovely people and the ballroom dance class all made for a great trip.

OUR NATIONAL AGM will take place at Reigate Manor Hotel on 7th February at 1.30. Please come and join with your Skål friends in hearing plans and voting for your new National Executive. Maybe you will wish to join us? Please advise Sally Gray if you are attending if you haven’t already done so. Email

OUR SKÅL NATIONAL MEETING is in London!!! Dates are 25/26 April. An exciting time is promised and further details will be with you very soon! But put this in the diary now! A very different National but “one to remember”!

John Bright has done an amazing job with the 200 Club and raised a lot of money for us which has helped with costs. It is not too early to buy tickets for the new season beginning April 2014. Do it now to ensure you will be in the first draw at the National in April.

John Bright advised that Peter Budden has passed away. Peter was a long standing member of Skal Southampton and together with his wife Eve supported both his club and Skål International. Funeral Details are TUESDAY 4TH FEBRUARY at 1400hrs at St Peters Church, West Tytherley SP5 1JY. After the service there will be a private family burial and all people attending are invited to join the family for refreshments in the village hall at West Tytherley.

WELCOME to LONDON´s new members Jason Lyon, Christian Tesuleanu and Robert Besant

I look forward to catching up with lots of you at our AGM next week. Please send me News and items for the next newsletter – otherwise it will be full of my holiday pics!!
