During the International Councilors conference as you may have read in my conference report, part of the repositioning of Skål International was looking at the prospect of a form of corporate membership.
I (Paul Follows) am sitting on the committee responsible for looking at this and before attending the next International Councilors meeting in May I would like to get as wide an opinion as possible and therefore there are a number of questions I would like your member’s thoughts and opinions on.
1. Do you think Skål membership should be open to Corporations and other Associations? If YES do you have any specific recommendations/examples in the UK that would benefit from membership?
2. Skål Membership has always been a personal membership with stringent quality controls on membership eligibility. Do you agree or not that this needs to change.
3. Do you believe that corporate membership is a good development tool? What affect do you think it may have on membership numbers, quality of members and finally on the SKAL brand/PR/marketing
4. If an Association has say 10,000 members, who will be eligible for corporate membership? ALL?
5. National Government and Tourist Organisations are extremely important bodies. Do you agree that they should collectively be associated with Skål Intl. If YES do you believe they should be corporate members or individual members?
6. Airlines are poorly represented in Skål, less than 5% of Skål Members are involved in the airline industry. If we were to provide a global carrier such as a national carrier will this lead to an INCREASE in Skål members or a DECREASE?
7. Airlines: Do you think it will help improve our relationship and sponsorship opportunities if Airlines were offered Corporate membership?
8. Suppliers to our industry who are not eligible for membership under current membership classifications, do you think it important that this should change or do you believe that the existing membership structure is appropriate? If NO what changes would you like to see.
9. Any other comments
