Message from Roger Edwards, 2017 Guernsey Skål President (download the full newsletter!)
My grateful thanks to Claudio and Janie for filling this column so effectively and informatively in the past two monthly newsletters. But now it's back to me to sum up the current state of play within Skål International Guernsey.
Proving we certainly hold no fear for superstitious murmurings, our seemingly regular gathering of 13 members and guests convened in St. Martin some ten days ago for our November social function: a most convivial dinner event at the Queens Inn.
A great time was enjoyed by all - and none more so than by Sid who was wished 'A very happy birthday' by all and sundry.
With another year coming towards a close - and yet another festive season looming on the horizon - our next social event will be the customary Christmas Lunch on Saturday, December 9, when we will be donning festive hats and exuding festive cheer at Village East in St. Peter Port.
I have no doubt that Nobby and Rosita, together with their loyal crew, will ensure we welcome in the yuletide season in Guernsey Skål's very own inimitable fashion.
It's then onwards to another new year - one that promises to be an exciting one for our island, with a record number of cruise ship arrivals (good luck, Isabel) and the launch at the end of April of the much heralded film version of 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society'.
That should give me plenty to write about in the new year.
I look forward to seeing you all in party mood down at Village East in a couple of weeks' time.
