FAREWELL TO A LOVELY LADY

First of all it is my sad task to say farewell to Pat Marsh who died on 20 April. Pat (and late husband, Geoff) was our friend and travelling companion since the mid 1980s and I think we've visited every continent except South America together. We shared clothes when Pat's suitcase went AWOL in Thailand, shared cars and dodgy hotels in Malaysia, and shared supreme moments of Skål 'amicale' at International, National, Irish and Asian assemblies around the world.

After Geoff died Pat carried on travelling and enjoying Skål and all the friends she had made. Now she's gone to that other place and has probably joined Geoff in doing all those endless 'Telegraph' crosswords that he took everywhere with him. Goodbye lovely lady.

Our sincere Skål condolences have been sent to her daughter Alison and family.

Our last evening out was International Day at the Old Tollgate, Bramber and we enjoyed a super meal as usual, with a hint of Hyderabad.

Next, we are crossing the Channel to Escalles (May 20) for a Rene and Renee lunch. Details and cost farther into the newsletter.  Book now!! (Via Martin please as the closing date falls whilst we're in Bahrain).

Philip and I will miss the Spa Valley train trip (June 15) as we're deep in the Cumbria countryside. I'm sure it will be an interesting outing and a number are already booked.

In July (16th) put out orders for good weather - its our garden/lunch party - and I'll plot the menu whilst counting money at the Dent Music & Beer Festival (Google it!!) during June.

August 19 is looking good for afternoon tea at the Lansdowne Hotel in Eastbourne, during Air Borne.

And then here's the National in September – brochure available soon.

So enjoy the spring weather and look forward to summer.
